Note about Windows 98: ICCS will work under Windows 98 but the online help for ICCS will not. That's why we recommend Windows 98 Second Edition instead. - Please note that the installation of "Service Pack 5" on a NT 3.51 PC can force you to reinstall your Microsoft ODBC drivers. - Included on the CD-ROM is the installation program for ODBC 3.0.23.1 supplied by Microsoft with Visual Basic 5.0. If ODBC is already installed on your PC you don't need to reinstall it unless you don't have the ODBC Access driver which is needed to run ICCS. - You must read and accept the product licence the first time you will run ICCS. You can access a text version of the licence text at x:\licencee.txt (where x is your CD-ROM drive) and x:\licencef.txt . licencee.txt is the english version of the licence file and licencef.txt is the french version. - During the installation of ICCS some system files will be installed or updated. You will find the list of those files in the section "List of system files and OCX installed" of this document. If you want to keep your version of the listed files you should make copies before starting the installation. ********************************************************************** ICCS Installation instructions ********************************************************************** 1 - If you have an older version of ICCS installed, you will have to uninstall it before installing the new version. Look for the uninstall instructions in the section "How to uninstall ICCS". 2 - Insert the ICCS CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 3 - Check if the ODBC drivers are installed on your PC by pressing Start/settings/Control Panel to bring the Control Panel window. If you don't see the ODBC icon, the ODBC drivers are not installed. If they are missing you can install them by running an installation program from the ICCS CD-ROM. Look at the section "ODBC drivers 3.0.23.1 installation instructions". If the ODBC icon is there, you then need to know if the Access driver is installed. Click on the ODBC icon to view the ODBC Data Source Administrator window. Click on the tab ODBC drivers to see which drivers are installed on your system. If "Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)" is not in the list of drivers, you will have to install it from the ICCS CD-ROM. Look at the section "ODBC drivers 3.0.23.1 installation instructions". 4 - You may now install ICCS by running an installation program from the CD-ROM. - For Windows NT 3.51 with Service Pack 5: In the Program Manager, select Run from the File menu. - For Windows 95, Windows 98 Second Edition or Windows NT 4.0: Select Run from the Start menu. - Type x:\English\setup.exe or x:\Français\setup.exe where x is the letter representing your CD-ROM drive. (Both installation programs install the same software; the only difference lies in the language of the setup program. ICCS is a bilingual product: each time you run the software you will select the language for your work session.) Click the OK button. Follow the instructions on the screen. The install program will inform you when the installation is complete. 5 - The installation will not create a shortcut on your desktop. Click OK if you would like Setup to update these files for you now. You will need to restart Windows before you can run Setup again. Click cancel to exit Setup without updating system files." then select OK to update the files and restart Windows to resume the ICCS installation. If your operating system is NT, you may need the Administrator privileges to update the system files. * Note for NT 3.51, NT 4.0 Installation problems may occurs if you don't have Administrator privileges on your workstation. If problems arise during ICCS installation, ask your LAN administrator to perform the installation for you. 2 - Installation of ODBC drivers: -------------------------------- * If you already have the ODBC drivers installed and if they are of a more recent version that the ones on this CD-ROM, the ODBC setup program won't install the older drivers on your PC. ICCS will work with the already installed ODBC drivers. * Note for NT 4.0 If there are installation problems and you have only a 'USER' privileges account, ask your lan administrator to do the installation for you under an administrator account. * Note for NT 3.51 If you receive the following error messages: "The dynamic link library MSVCRT.dll could not be found in the specified path C:\WINNT35\system32;..."; "MSORCL10.dll was unable to register itself in the system registry."; "Microsoft ODBC Setup was not completed successfully." then start again the ODBC drivers installation: select the "Custom" installation and then select only the option "Microsoft Desktop ODBC Drivers". 3 - Execution of ICCS: --------------------- * If at startup you get this message: "Connection to server failed. Do you wish to retry to connect? If you select No ICCS will end." then the Access ODBC driver is not installed on your PC. Install the ODBC drivers and then restart ICCS. Refer to the section "ODBC drivers 3.0.23.1 installation instructions" to install the drivers. * If at startup you get this message: "The ODBC ressource dll is a different version than the ODBC setup dll." ICCS will run even if the version of your ODBC files are not synchronized. Look at the different version of your ODBC files in Start/Settings/Control Panel/ODBC/tab About. Try reinstalling ODBC drivers of the latest version already on your PC. * If at startup you get this message: "Class Clobals - The search for the ISIC3 classification metadata failed. Retry the operation, if it fails you can try to reinstall the application. If it still fails contact Statcan electronic Products Helpline" then it means you have a problem with your ODBC drivers on your PC. Reinstall your ODBC drivers and then restart ICCS. ODBC drivers 3.0.23.1 is provided with this CD-ROM. More recent versions of ODBC is available for download at this address http://www.microsoft.com/data/. Look for "Microsoft Data Access Components". * Note for Windows 95 and Windows 98 Second Edition If you receive a serie of messages: 4 times "Unanticipated error #48 occured: "File not found: sicvbs32.dll"; "Options Module - Problem getting Classification Names from Database. Retry the operation, if it fails you can try to reinstall the application. If it still fails contact StatCan Electronic Products Helpline."; "Please Exit"; "Unanticipated error #48 occured: "File not found: sicvbs32.dll"; "The disconnect from server failed. Invalid return code: '0'. Retry the operation...": then it means the ODBC drivers are not installed on your PC. Install the ODBC drivers and then restart ICCS. Refer to the section "ODBC drivers 3.0.23.1 installation instructions" to install the drivers. * Note for NT 3.51 If you receive a serie of messages: 4 times "Unanticipated error #53 occured: "File not found: sicvbs32.dll"; "Options Module - Problem getting Classification Names from Database. Retry the operation, fi it fails you can try to reinstall the application. If it still fails contact StatCan Electronic Products Helpline."; "Please Exit"; "Unanticipated error #48 occured: "File not found: sicvbs32.dll"; "The disconnect from server failed. Invalid return code: '0'. Retry the operation...": then it means ODBC drivers are not installed on your PC. Install the ODBC drivers and then restart ICCS. Refer to the section "ODBC drivers 3.0.23.1 installation instructions" to install the drivers. 4 - ICCS online help: -------------------- * Note for Windows 98 ICCS will work under Windows 98 but the online help for ICCS will not work properly. That's why we recommend Windows 98 Second Edition instead. However, if you cannot get hold of Windows 98 Second Edition and still want to access the ICCS online help under Windows 98 then delete the following files from C:\windows\system, if they exist, and try the ICCS online help again: ICCShelp.CNT ICCShelp.GID ICCShelp.FTS SCCIAide.CNT SCCIAide.GID SCCIAide.FTS 5 - ICCS uninstall: ------------------ * The ICCS uninstall may leave a directory and files on your PC. If the C:\Statcan\ICCS_SCCI directory is still on your PC after the uninstall you can delete it. ********************************************************************** Need help ? ********************************************************************** - For help installing this software or on the NAICS Canada classification, please contact the Standards Division of Statistics Canada: 613-951-8576 or Fax: 613-951-8578. - For problems in coding, contact Standards Division and NOT the StatCan Electronic Products Helpline. ********************************************************************** ICCS CD-ROM content ********************************************************************** x is your CD-ROM drive.
