System Requirements

To run all the Publisher's Edition components, you must have the following minimum hardware and software:

Installation

The Publisher's Edition setup program creates a program group called Publisher's Edition inside a Beyond 2020 program group in your computer's start menu. By default it installs the following to your hard drive:

The default setup location is C:\Program Files\Beyond 2020\Publisher's Edition.

Installing Publisher's Edition

Note: If you downloaded the Publisher's Edition from Beyond 20/20's website, first double-click it to extract the compressed files. You will need a password. By default the files will extract themselves into the folder C:\Temp; however, we recommend that you choose a more permanent installation folder, and that you do not delete the extracted files when setup is complete. (You may need the original files in the future if you wish to install a service pack.)

To install the Publisher's Edition on a local computer:

  1. Do one of the following:
  1. Read and accept the licence agreement. If you do not accept the agreement you will not be able to proceed with the installation. Then click Next.

  2. Enter your user name and organization and indicate whether you want all users of your computer, or only yourself, to have access to the software. (Not all operating systems have this option.) Then click Next.

  3. Choose a setup type, either Complete or Custom, and then click Next. (If you want to be able to change any settings, such as the install location, choose Custom.)

  4. If you chose a custom setup:
  5. Click Next, and then click Install.

Click Cancel if you want to halt the installation and roll your computer back to the state it was in before you started.

The installer places icons in a Publisher's Edition program group inside a Beyond 2020 group in your computer's start menu.

Performing a network installation of Publisher's Edition

A network installation gives users the choice of installing the Publisher's Edition to their local computer or running it from the network. First perform an administrator installation to create a server image of the Publisher's Edition.

To perform an administrator installation:

  1. From a command prompt, run setup.exe by entering its complete path and the command /a.

  2. Enter or select a network-accessible location and click Install.

The installer creates an image from which your users can perform network installations on their local computers.

To perform a network installation on a local computer, do one of the following:

Then follow the onscreen instructions.

The installer installs the selected software and data components to the local computer and creates a Publisher's Edition program group inside a Beyond 2020 group in the local computer's start menu.

Installing the Distributor

The Beyond 20/20 Distributor enables you to create data-distribution packages that include Beyond 20/20 Browser software as well as your data files. It is installed automatically along with Publisher's Edition. To start the Distributor, click its icon in the Publisher's Edition program group of your Windows start menu.

Each Distributor screen includes brief instructions on how to proceed. For more information, you can click the Help button on any screen.

Creating a customized Distributor installation

If you want to create a customized installer for use by your Browser end-users, you can use the TRANSFORMS option in the command line to select a language for the installation.

Installing the Footnote Loader

You can add footnotes to tables using the Beyond 20/20 Visual Builder, but the tools in the builder are not designed to address the needs of high-volume applications. If you want to add a lot of footnotes to a table—or add footnotes to a lot of tables—you should install the Beyond 20/20 Footnote Loader.

To install the Footnote Loader, locate the file setup.exe in the folder Footnote_Loader. (The default location is C:\Program Files\Beyond 2020\Publisher's Edition\Footnote_Loader.) Double-click the setup file and follow the instructions on your screen.

The setup procedure is similar to that for the Publisher's Edition except that the Footnote Loader's installer asks you to select a program group for the icons. We recommend that you use the Beyond 2020 program group.

Note: The online help for the Footnote Loader is in Microsoft's HTML Help format. Users who have trouble accessing it should install the file hhupd.exe from the Microsoft website:
