New in this release
This service pack release
addresses the following issues:
- Unrecognized error when
adding languages after having enabled and added missing values.
- Dimension Search - Should
not be case sensitive for French characters.
- Loss of source fields
and sometimes corruption when you cancel the rebuilding of an extract.
- Program hangs when importing
an English/French/Spanish table to a French/Spanish table.
- Unrecognized error when
importing an English/French table into a table with no languages.
- Missing value and footnote
descriptions should only overwrite for the same language if they already exist.
- After import, a cell
is expected to have the default missing value. Instead its value is zero.
- Unrecognized error when
importing a table with an incompatible missing value list.
- Footnotes not imported
properly when missing values are also imported, and the original table into
which you are importing does not have missing values enabled.
- Unrecognized error when
importing into a table with no languages, and new fields exist in the table
you are importing.
- Dimension, missing value,
and footnote descriptions not brought in when importing one IVT into another.
- Incorrect values when
members of a group are deleted.
- Importing one table into
another does not import footnotes.
- Importing one table into
another corrupts the table if new missing values are added.
- When saving as CSV, French
characters are saved using the MSDOS Character set.
- A multi-lingual extract
will show English after closing a built table when a non-english language
was showing previously.
- Missing Value description
shows in English for all languages when a table is built from a multilingual
extract.
- Imported dimension fields
have "Language (none)" instead of their proper language.
- Spelling and grammar
errors in the French Quick Start Guide.

System
Requirements
To
run all the Publisher's Edition components, you must have the following minimum
hardware and software:
- Windows 95, 98, Me,
NT, 2000, or XP.
Note: This version of Publisher's Edition uses the Windows Installer
that ships with Windows 2000. On older operating systems, setup may fail with
a message that the installer cannot be found. In that case you can download
the installer from Microsoft's web site:
- Internet Explorer 4.01,
SP1 or later.
Note: If you want to use the optional HTML editor for creating summaries,
Internet Explorer 5.0 or later is required.
- Intel 486 or faster
processor (Pentium-class processor recommended).
- At least 16 MB of available
RAM after all normal system resources are loaded.
- 60 MB of available disk
space for the software. Data files will need more space, depending on their
size.
Installation
The Publisher's Edition
setup program creates a program group called Publisher's Edition inside a Beyond
2020 program group in your computer's start menu. By default it installs the
following to your hard drive:
- Beyond 20/20 Visual Builder
- Beyond 20/20 Professional
Browser and Publication
Browser
- Setup files for the Footnote
Loader application
- Beyond 20/20 Distributor
- Documentation files
The default setup location
is C:\Program Files\Beyond 2020\Publisher's Edition.
Installing Publisher's
Edition
Note: If you downloaded
the Publisher's Edition from Beyond 20/20's website, first double-click it to
extract the compressed files. You will need a password. By default the files
will extract themselves into the folder C:\Temp; however, we recommend that
you choose a more permanent installation folder, and that you do not delete
the extracted files when setup is complete. (You may need the original files
in the future if you wish to install a service pack.)
To install the Publisher's
Edition on a local computer:
- Do one of the following:
- Using Windows Explorer,
locate setup.exe on your Beyond 20/20 installation CD-ROM or in your installation
folder and double-click it.
- In Control Panel,
double-click Add/Remove Programs and then click Install.
You will be prompted to insert your Beyond 20/20 CD-ROM.
If there is a previous version of the Publisher's Edition on your computer,
you will be asked if you want to upgrade. Click Yes to continue.
Upgrading overwrites the old version.
- Read and accept
the licence agreement. If you do not accept the agreement you will not be
able to proceed with the installation. Then click Next.
- Enter your user name
and organization and indicate whether you want all users of your computer,
or only yourself, to have access to the software. (Not all operating systems
have this option.) Then click Next.
- Choose a setup type,
either Complete or Custom, and then click Next. (If you
want to be able to change any settings, such as the install location, choose
Custom.)
- If you chose a custom
setup:
- To change the default
set of program features, click the program icons and choose the options
you want.
- To change the setup
location, click Change and enter or choose a new location. (If
the location doesn't exist the installer will create it.)
- Click Next, and
then click Install.
Click Cancel if you want to halt the installation and roll your computer
back to the state it was in before you started.
The installer places icons in a Publisher's Edition program group inside a
Beyond 2020 group in your computer's start menu.
Performing
a network installation of Publisher's Edition
A network installation gives
users the choice of installing the Publisher's Edition to their local computer
or running it from the network. First perform an administrator installation
to create a server image of the Publisher's Edition.
To perform an administrator
installation:
- From a command prompt,
run setup.exe by entering its complete path and the command /a.
- Enter or select a network-accessible
location and click Install.
The installer creates
an image from which your users can perform network installations on their
local computers.
To perform a network installation
on a local computer, do one of the following:
- From a command prompt,
enter the fully-qualified path name of the Windows installer file (*.msi)
that was installed during the administrator installation. Then press Enter.
- Using Windows Explorer,
locate the Windows installer file (*.msi) that was installed during the
administrator installation and double-click it.
Then follow the onscreen
instructions.
The installer installs the
selected software and data components to the local computer and creates a Publisher's
Edition program group inside a Beyond 2020 group in the local computer's start
menu.
Installing
the Distributor
The Beyond 20/20 Distributor
enables you to create data-distribution packages that include Beyond 20/20 Browser
software as well as your data files. It is installed automatically along with
Publisher's Edition. To start the Distributor, click its icon in the Publisher's
Edition program group of your Windows start menu.
Each Distributor screen
includes brief instructions on how to proceed. For more information, you can
click the Help button on any screen.
Note: See the Known
Issues, below, for important information about installing a distribution
from a CD-ROM onto a computer running Windows XP.
Creating a customized Distributor
installation
If you want to create a
customized installer for use by your Browser end-users, you can use the TRANSFORMS
option in the command line to select a language for the installation.
- A Transform is an MST
file that temporarily modifies the behavior of an installation package (an
MSI file). The Distributor includes the following MST files:
- 1033.mst = English
- 1034.mst = Spanish
- 1036.mst = French
- Use the following syntax
to invoke the TRANSFORMS option:
"<Path>BrowserProductName.msi" TRANSFORMS="<Path>{1033.mst
| 1034.mst | 1036.mst}"
- Note: End-users
must have an up-to-date version of Windows Installer on their computers. If
necessary, you can distribute the Installer setup files:
- instmsia.exe - for
Windows 9x
- instmsiw.exe - for
Windows NT
Installing
the Footnote Loader
You can add footnotes to
tables using the Beyond 20/20 Visual Builder, but the tools in the builder are
not designed to address the needs of high-volume applications. If you want to
add a lot of footnotes to a tableor add footnotes to a lot of tablesyou
should install the Beyond 20/20 Footnote Loader.
To install the Footnote
Loader, locate the file setup.exe in the folder Footnote_Loader. (The default
location is C:\Program Files\Beyond 2020\Publisher's Edition\Footnote_Loader.)
Double-click the setup file and follow the instructions on your screen.
The setup procedure is similar to that for the Publisher's Edition
except that the Footnote Loader's installer asks you to select a program group
for the icons. We recommend that you use the Beyond 2020 program group.
Note: The online
help for the Footnote Loader is in Microsoft's HTML Help format. Users who have
trouble accessing it should install the file hhupd.exe from the Microsoft website:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=33071
Known Issues
- A read-write table,
located on a machine that is running Windows NT or Windows 2000, opens as
read-only. This can occur if a read-write file is located in a directory
for which the user does not have write permission.
- Solution: Assign
write permission to the user for the directory in which the file is located.
- Windows 95, 98, ME.
Exception 10H when printing certain files on certain printers. This
happens very rarely, and it is a known Microsoft issue.
- Solution: Use a different
printer, or else install a different printer driver. For
more information, search the Microsoft Knowledge Base for Exception 10H.
- Windows 95. Chart
colors do not display properly at the default setting of 256 colors.
- Solution: Increase
your computer's display properties to 16-bit color.
- Summary Editor installs
MS Outlook. When
you first run the Summary Editor in Beyond 20/20 Visual Builder or Professional
Browser, Windows Installer attempts to install MS Outlook 2000. This
occurs when MS Office 2000 is installed and MS Outlook is configured to install
"at first use." It
is caused by the fact that the Summary Editor and MS Outlook share a common
system control.
- Solution: Allow the
MS Outlook installer to run. It will only do this the first time you use
the Summary Editor, and it only installs a few Outlook components - not
the entire application.
