National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth - Cycle 1 (nlscy):UPDATED


The National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth (NLSCY) is a
long-term study of Canadian children that follows their development and
well-being from birth to early adulthood. The NLSCY began in 1994 and is
jointly conducted by Statistics Canada and Human Resources Development
Canada. 


The study is designed to collect information about factors influencing a
child’s social, emotional and behavioural development and to monitor the
impact of these factors on the child’s development over time. 


The survey covers a comprehensive range of topics including the health
of children, information on their physical development, learning and
behaviour as well as data on their social environment (family, friends,
schools and communities).

(2007-06-27) NLSCY Cycle 1 - 3: Data file reissued


This note is to inform you that the Public Use Microdata Files and
related documentation have been updated (Cycles 1, 2 and 3). The data
files have been revised to: 

"	Represent the 2001 Census population counts (new weights)
"	Represent the new MSD scale - recalculation of DMSCS02 and the addition of DMSCdS03 for cycles 2 and 3.
"	Correct the math score for cycle 3 (CMACS03)
"	Add the age in months (DMMCdQ1B)


Codebooks for cycle 1, 2 and 3 have been revised as well. Cycle 1
codebook is now separate from the user guide. Also, the Cycle 3 custody
data have been removed.
