Up to the release date of this new documentation you can use information included in the 1997 "Canadian Travel Survey Microdata User's Guide" 87M0006GPE. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Changes to the Canadian Travel Survey microdata files for 1998 compared to 1997: The activity named visiting friends and relatives ( in 1997 ) in now split into 2 categories : Visiting Relatives ( ACTIVITY 1) Visiting Friends ( ACTIVITY2). Consequently all other activities have shifted downward by 1. The mode of accommodation Fishing and Hunting lodge ( LODGENT) is now shown separately. In previous years this category was included in the Resort category (RESORTNT) Expenditures for TAXI can be shown separately under (RTAXI) for reallocated expenditures and (TAXI) for reported expenditures. However, these expenditures are still included within local transportation: (RLOCALTR) for reallocated expenditures and (LOCALTR) for reported expenditures. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Changes to the Canadian Travel Survey microdata files for 1999 compared to 1998: Industry (INDUST) and Occupation ( OCCUP) codes are now based on the North American Industry Classification System ( NAICS) instead of the 1980 Standard Industrial and Occupational Classifications (SIC) and (SOC). The 1999 RECORD LAYOUT gives this information to users. NOTE: Definitions and Tourism Regions codes may change every year. Users have to check the record layout of each year to find the geographical changes and check with Statistics Canada for definitions of the territory.
