Summary

The Violence against women survey, 1993 was conducted by
Statistics Canada from February through June 1993. The
objectives of the survey were to provide reliable estimates
of the nature and extent of violence against women by male
partners, acquaintances and strangers, and to examine
women's fear of violence in order to support current and
future federal government activities. The microdata file
contains 12,300 respondents, and 472 variables.
 
The data are being made available to all academic institutions
which have at one time or another been a member of at least one
of the CARL/ABRC data consortia. Funding for release of the data
to the data consortia has come from the Solicitor General of Canada.
 
Institutions or individual researchers who do not qualify
to receive the data as a member of one of the CARL/ABRC data
consortia can purchase the microdata file from Statistics Canada
at a cost of Can. $2,000.00. Special request tabulations can
also be produced by Statistics Canada, at a cost that will
reflect the resources required to produce the tabulations.
