The 2001 Census of Agriculture counted 246,923 farms in Canada on May 15, 2001, down 10.7% from 1996.
Farmers reported 89.9 million acres in crops, up 4.2%.
Livestock numbers have increased: cattle are up by 4.4%, pigs by 26.4%, and sheep by 46%.
