Exit sourcing is only available for the provinces of British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec. Only a certain number of the highways, usually carto 1 designations, have exit numbers associated with them. There are approximately 2900 exit points across Canada. Exit number information was compiled from paper maps and publications printed by various transportation sources. Information such as exit numbers and source IDs were recorded from these sources. The Exit layer is comprised of label points that are associated with specific intersections as outlined by all available sources. These points were snapped into location, using the CanMap Streetfiles as a backdrop, to indicate the meeting point of three or more line segments at that intersection – usually where an off ramp and highway meet.
